Dimitar Lukanov

Born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Lukanov pursued his education in both Europe and the United States, graduating with distinction from Parsons School of Design in New York. His sculptures can be found in prominent public spaces around the world, from airports and city squares to cultural institutions.

Among his most renowned commissions are “Flight” at JFK International Airport in New York, “Riverdance” in Kavarna, Bulgaria, and “Entrance to Now” in Plovdiv. Each of these works reflects his unique ability to combine engineering precision with poetic expression.

Lukanov’s art has been exhibited internationally and featured in leading publications. He received recognition from cultural ministries, municipal governments, and private patrons who sought his ability to transform public space into a dialogue of form and spirit.

Beyond his monumental works, Lukanov’s philosophy was rooted in the idea that sculpture must embody freedom. He often described his process as a search for equilibrium between the human form, natural forces, and architectural context.

Today, his legacy continues to inspire artists, architects, and communities worldwide.
